What We Do

Set Standards

NACOSTI accredits Institutional Scientific and Ethics Review Committees, with NSEC providing expert review of each application. Only accredited ISERCs may review research in Kenya.

Review Research

Accredited ISERCs review the ethical and scientific merit of research protocols at their institutions, while NSEC provides expert review of referred and complex cases.

Safeguard Participants

Together, the system protects the rights, safety, dignity and wellbeing of research participants and upholds scientific quality across the science, technology and innovation sector.

About NSERS

Kenya’s National Scientific and Ethics Review System is regulated by NACOSTI and provides a coordinated framework for ensuring that research in Kenya meets scientific and ethical standards. Through the National Scientific and Ethics Committee, NACOSTI receives expert advice on research ethics and quality, while accredited Institutional Scientific and Ethics Review Committees in universities, hospitals, and research institutions review proposals before NACOSTI issues final research licenses.
