Prof. Alice Mutungi is Dean of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at Kenya Methodist University, where she also sits on the university’s Ethics and Research Committee. An obstetrician-gynaecologist and public health specialist, she holds an MBChB, an MMed in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, an MSc in Reproductive Biology, and a Master of Public Health Leadership, with training at the University of Nairobi, the University of the Witwatersrand, and Uganda Christian University.

Prof. Violet Naanyu is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Moi University’s School of Arts and Social Sciences and a Visiting Research Scientist at Aga Khan University’s Center of Excellence in Women and Child Health, Nairobi. She holds a PhD and MA in Sociology from Indiana University Bloomington, with additional graduate training in medical anthropology (University of Amsterdam) and global bioethics (Universidad Anáhuac, Mexico). She is a medical sociologist and bioethicist with more than 100 peer-reviewed publications; her research spans HIV care, maternal and child health, and behavioural determinants of health.

Dr. Hastings Ozwara Suba is a molecular parasitologist long affiliated with the Institute of Primate Research (IPR) in Nairobi, where he has served as a senior scientist and Head of the Department of Tropical and Infectious Diseases. He holds a PhD in Molecular Parasitology from Leiden University and the Biomedical Primate Research Centre in the Netherlands, an MSc in Parasitology, and a BSc in Zoology, both from the University of Nairobi. His research centres on non-human primate models for malaria drug and vaccine development, alongside broader work on zoonotic and vector-borne diseases, contributing to more than fifteen peer-reviewed publications. He has held internal research-governance roles at IPR, including Secretary of its institutional review committee and Chair of its Scientific Committee.

Dr. Gordon Nguka is Head of the Department of Nutrition Sciences at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), Kenya, where he holds a PhD in Medical Dietetics and Paediatric Physiology. His research and teaching span nutritional assessment, body composition analysis, and the socioeconomic and demographic determinants of child malnutrition and food security, including published work on severe acute malnutrition in conflict-affected settings. He also serves in national professional leadership as a Council member of the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI), chairing its Accreditation Committee.

Prof. Thomas Rewe is an Associate Professor of Animal Sciences at Pwani University, Kenya, specialising in animal breeding and genetics, with more recent research in bioeconomy and circular agriculture. He holds a Doctor of Agricultural Sciences (Dr. sc. agr.) from the University of Hohenheim, Germany, and a BSc and MSc from Egerton University, Kenya. He previously served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research at Great Lakes University of Kisumu and chaired Pwani University’s own Institutional Scientific and Ethics Review Committee for nearly a decade.

Dr. Caroline is Head Consultant Clinical Pharmacist and Director of Research and Training at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), an honorary lecturer at Maseno and Uzima Universities, and a member of JOOTRH’s ethics committee. She holds a B.Pharm and an M.Pharm in Clinical Pharmacy (Paediatrics/Oncology) and an MBA, all from the University of Nairobi, with research interests in antimicrobial resistance.

Prof. Julius Kipkemboi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Egerton University, Kenya, where he has also served as Dean of the Faculty of Science. He holds a BSc in Botany/Zoology from Egerton University, an MSc in Environmental Science and Technology from IHE Delft, and a PhD in Environmental Resources/Wetland Ecology from UNESCO-IHE and Wageningen University in the Netherlands. His research centres on wetland ecology and ecosystem services in East Africa, particularly the papyrus wetlands of the Lake Victoria basin. He is a longstanding leader in bioethics, having coordinated the UNESCO Regional Bioethics Centre.

Dr. Jane Wathuta is Academic Director of Strathmore Law School and Director of the Institute for Family Studies and Ethics at Strathmore University in Nairobi. She holds an LL.B from the University of Nairobi, a Master’s in Marriage and Family from the University of Navarre, Spain, and a PhD in Bioethics from the Biomedical University of Rome, and is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. Her research centres on bioethics, research ethics, and health law, with particular attention to HIV prevention and gender and family ethics from an African communitarian perspective. She is co-founder and chairperson of Women in Academia (WiA.ke).

Orpha Nyakundi serves as Deputy Director, Programmes in Ethics of Science and Sports, at the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO. She holds a Bachelor of Education, a Master of Education in Educational Psychology, a Master of Arts in Early Childhood Development, and a doctorate in Educational Planning. She brings a background in education and early-childhood-development programming to her ethics work, and is the author of Crush the Junk: Overcoming Alcohol and Drug Dependency, alongside co-authored articles on research ethics committees.

Prof. Mary Oyiela Abukutsa-Onyango is a Professor of Horticulture at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). She holds a PhD in Horticultural Crop Physiology and Nutrition from Wye College, University of London, and a BSc and MSc from the University of Nairobi. She was named a co-laureate of the 2025 Africa Food Prize and is a Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences.

Rev. Frallystone Omusula is a pastor at Nairobi Baptist Church, where he is an active preaching and teaching minister, including at the church’s Kibera congregation.
